The Jamaican Government has granted permission for special flights to transport hundreds of visitors who have been stranded in the island because of the United Kingdom travel ban.
The first flight will take place today (Tuesday), while two others will follow on the 4th and 9th of the month.
Following queries by Radio Jamaica News, Senior Strategist in the Tourism Ministry, Delano Seiveright, last night confirmed there will be three flights to the UK this month, with many of the passengers being members of Jamaica’s UK diaspora who were visiting when the travel ban was imposed.
Last week Prime Minister Andrew Holness announced that the ban on flights to the UK had been extended until the end of this month.
Jamaica's travel ban was implemented because of concerns about the new strain of COVID-19 detected in the UK.
