St. Catherine car-stealing ring dismantled

Senior Superintendent of Police Howard Chambers

The St Catherine North Police have dismantled a car-stealing ring after obtaining footage from closed-circuit television cameras under the Jamaica Eye programme.

Commanding Officer for the Division, Senior Superintendent Howard Chambers, told Radio Jamaica News that two men have been arrested.

The men were reportedly involved in the theft of  three cars from a plaza in Spanish Town.

Superintendent Chambers explained that the surveilance footage showed, over time, that each time a vehicle was stolen from the plaza, it was followed out of the property by the same car, presumably driven by a member of the car-stealing ring.

"We got the licence plate of the vehicle but we didn't operate because we wanted to catch the criminals red-handed (and) so said, so done," he explained.
