There is rising tension in St Catherine East Central after the shop of a JLP team leader was destroyed by fire early Tuesday morning.

The fire started sometime before 1 o'clock in Portmore Villa, Gregory Park.

There was no report of injury.

JLP candidate for St. Catherine East Central, Alando Terrelonge, expressed anger at what he said was an unprovoked political attack.

"I am so disappointed. I am very, very angry that supporters of a political party, since last week they have been intimidating our supporters. We have been strong, we have been resilient. I have reported their threats and their attacks to the police high command. I have also reported the matter to my political command and we have been continuing peacefully, peacefully along. And then tonight, they came and they spray-painted the words as you can see, 'one don', 'one talk', and they've resorted to burn down the premises of our supporters. Luckily, the family was awake and they were able to stop the fire from reaching to the home," he lamented.

Ludicrous

In the meantime, People's National Party candidate for St. Catherine East Central, Raymond Pryce, has rejected as ludicrous and desperate the assertion by Mr. Terrelonge that the morning's fire in Gregory Park is associated with the PNP.

In a media release, Mr. Pryce said the situation is tragic and he will be making every effort to reach out to the affected family.

Mr. Pryce is calling for the Political Ombudsman to assist in having Mr. Terrelonge remove immediately his social media posting suggesting blame.

He also wants the Political Ombudsman to act urgently on information provided to the liaison officer from the Jamaica Constabulary Force, regarding activities he claims are supported by Mr. Terrelonge.
