At least three people were killed and several others injured after an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.9 rocked parts of Haiti early Tuesday morning.

The quake caused damage to some buildings near Abricot in the Department of Grand'Anse.

The Haitian Civil Protection said the quake had a depth of 10 kilometres.

The bodies of three people were found under a collapsed house.

Several children were treated in hospital for injuries.

Many buildings were damaged in Jérémie and in Sainte Hélène and the authorities said the quake had caused panic among the population.
