Energy Minister Fayval Williams has declared that the time has come for a review of the Jamaica Public Service Company’s policy of filtering a part of the cost of electricity theft to its paying customers.
On Sunday night the minister told Radio Jamaica News that decisive action will have to be taken to address non-technical losses incurred by the utility company.
Protesters, who gathered near the utility company’s headquarters on Saturday, demanded a review of the company's billing system, including the practice of forcing its customers to absorb some of its losses.
The protesters said they plan to submit petitions to the government.
Mrs Wiliams also revealed that she is expecting word from the Office of Utilities Regulation next month regarding the preliminary findings of its audit of the JPS's billing system
