Caymanas Drive in Portmore, St. Catherine was the scene of a deadly shootout involving the police and gunmen on Wednesday.
About 1:30 p.m., the police intercepted a car with three men aboard after they received information that the men were about to commit a murder in the St. Catherine South area.
Nigel Morgan, Director of Complaints for INDECOM's Southern Region, told Radio Jamaica News that when the police attempted to stop the vehicle, the occupants opened gunfire.
The police returned fire and the attackers' vehicle crashed into a wall.
Two men alighted the car and ran, while officers found an injured man slumped in the vehicle.
Another of the gunmen, who sought refuge in a house in Waterford, was injured after he attempted to shoot at the police.
The two injured men were pronounced dead at hospital.
The third gunman escaped.
Two guns were recovered.
