UCASE asks to see wage deal signed by other unions

By Warren Bertram

The Union of Clerical, Administrative and Supervisory Employees (UCASE) says its members should be allowed to see the wage agreement signed on Thursday by the other unions and the Ministry of Finance.

UCASE President Vincent Morrison argues that if the other unions who are still on the fence were given access to the agreement, it could help with convincing them to sign.

"All I'm talking about here is transparency, and it shouldn't be difficult for the Government of Jamaica or the Ministry of Finance to relay to the unions who have not yet signed off. Maybe the information that has been signed...will go a far way in assisting the process coming to a final conclusion," he reasoned while speaking Friday on the Morning Agenda on Power 106.

Following months of deliberations, the Ministry of Finance on Thursday disclosed that it had reached an agreement with a number of major public sector trade unions, including a majority of the unions in the Jamaica Confederation of Trade Unions (JCTU).

These unions represent more than 60,000 public sector employees.

The ministry said between November 15 and November 17, fourteen unions signed the wage deal under the restructured public sector compensation system.
