Uchence gang trial: Several accused acquitted of more charges

Alleged gang leader Uchence Wilson and four of his co-accused who are on trial were on Thursdy found not guilty of some of the charges against them.

Mr. Wilson, Fitzroy Scott, Derron Taylor, Michael Lamont and Stephenson Bennett were acquitted of burglary, larceny of a dwelling and robbery with aggravation.

Chief Justice Sykes said the evidence against the men was insufficient.

Reviewing the testimony from one of the witnesses, Justice Sykes said the evidence does not establish the commission of a serious offence in relation to burglary and larceny of a dwelling.

Scott, Taylor, Lamont and Bennett were found not guilty of robbing a fruit vendor in St. Mary.

The other alleged members of the Uchence Wilson gang on trial will have to wait another week to know their fate.

The summation of evidence against the 16 defendants, including a member of the Jamaica Constabulary Force will resume on Monday.
