Voting ends in Jamaica's general election

Polls have now closed in the high stakes general election which will decide the political futures of some of the main players.

The Electoral Office of Jamaica said up to 2 o'clock, the voter turnout was 30.6 per cent.

Some 139 candidates are vying for a seat in the 63 constituencies.

The Jamaica Labour Party and the People's National Party have both fielded candidates for every seat, while 13 independent candidates are also seeking election.

It is expected that the election could be decided by just twelve seats, which are considered marginal, having been won by fewer than 1,000 votes in the last general election.
