The Ministry of Education has agreed to submit a draft Memorandum of Understanding with HEART NSTA /Trust on the status of employees at the Vocational Training Development Institute (VTDI) and National Council on Technical and Vocational Education and Training (NCTVET).
As a result, disgruntled workers at VTDI and NCTVET, who have been staging sit-ins, returned to work on Tuesday.
The workers have been protesting in relation to pay and contract issues, and their agencies' transition to the Ministry of Education.
After demanding that the ministry meet with them, discussions were held on Monday.
Earl Samuels, National Workers Union delegate at NCTVET, told Radio Jamaica News that a draft MOU should be sent to the employee representatives by March 14.
"They also indicated that the union would be at the table when it's drafting the more fulsome MOU [with] full details of our benefits and how we move forward with the transition," he added.
However, Mr. Samuels said the workers were not fully satisfied with the outcome of the meeting, as it was felt that more tangible assurances could have been given regarding their grouses.
"We had to really coax [workers] to return to work. Most wanted to continue the action because they felt disrespected," he pointed out.
