Weekend lockdowns eased, new curfew measures announced

Prime Minister Andrew Holness

Prime Minister Andrew Holness has announced that the weekend lockdowns will not be extended.

However, he has announced tight curfew measures for the next three weekends.

The curfew will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Saturdays and 2:00 p.m. on Sundays, ending at 5:00 a.m. the following morning.

The weekday curfew will remain at 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. daily.

Mr. Holness said all other measures have been extended.

The ban on travel from the United Kingdom will remain in place until April 30.

The ban on South American countries, Brazil, Chile, Peru, Argentina and Paraguay, has been extended until May 4.

Mr. Holness warned that "though we are increasing our vaccinations, new variants can pose a threat." He said evidence of this has been seen in several South American countries where "they have attained high levels of vaccination and are still going through a spike."

The suspension of face-to-face classes in all schools, public or private, will also continue. However, students are permitted to sit exit exams at physical school locations.

The ban on funerals remains while the restrictions on burials will continue until May 4.

The limit on the number of people who can attend church services has been increased to 30, up from 12.
