Antigua & Barbuda Workers' Union defends Cuban medical programme

The Antigua & Barbuda Workers' Union has come out in support of regional governments which have defended the Cuban Medical Brigade programme.

The Union says Cuba has made significant contributions to the regional healthcare system.

Despite challenges, including scrutiny from the United States regarding the Cuban medical programme, Caricom leaders have consistently highlighted the immense value of this initiative, which continues to benefit their countries.

Senator David Massiah, General Secretary of the ABWU, declared on Tuesday that the organization stands firm in recognizing the indispensable role that Cuban healthcare professionals have played in improving health outcomes in Antigua & Barbuda and across the region.

The union has urged the Government of Antigua & Barbuda to not only communicate its future plans concerning the Cuban medical team, but also to engage the public in understanding the vital services provided by these healthcare professionals.
