Cayman Government promises to improve emergency assistance for homeless people

The Government of the Cayman Islands has promised to improve emergency assistance for homeless people.

This commitment followed a report that a family, including two young children, ended up living on a beach.

Deputy Premier and Minister for Social Development Kenneth Bryan said the Department of Financial Assistance was aware of the seriousness of the issue and had done all it could as the policies of the department were inadequate to comprehensively assist the family

He said directives were issued to the Department of Financial Assistance, with Cabinet approval, to pay for short hotel stays until longer-term accommodation is found for people who fall on hard times.
