Dominican Republic to deport 71 Haitians who allegedly assaulted police

Dominican Republic's Directorate General of Migration, Venancio Alcantara Valdez has announced plans to deport 71 illegal Haitian nationals who reportedly assaulted security officials who wanted them to undergo routine checks on Friday.

The Director General also said that a group of undocumented Haitians who assaulted National Police agents fled and were later arrested.

A bus with illegal Haitian nationals was intercepted along the Punta Cana traffic circle. The Haitians threw stones at the authorities who were a part of the operation.

Following the incident, 78 Haitians were detained.
