Police in Dominica's capital, Roseau used tear gas and rubber bullets on Wednesday to disperse protesters who had gathered as Parliament debated key electoral reform legislation.
The demonstration was sparked by a call from Opposition Leader Dr. Thomson Fontaine, who urged citizens to rally outside the Parliament building in large numbers to demand electoral reform.
Dr Fontaine, the political leader of the United Workers Party, made the appeal during a press conference organized by the Electoral Reform Coalition on Tuesday.

Inside Parliament, lawmakers were engaged in the second and third readings of the Electoral Commission Bill 2024, House of Assembly Elections Bill 2024, and Registration of Electors Bill 2024—legislation that has stirred national debate over proposed changes to the electoral system.
The protest highlights continuing tensions over electoral reform in Dominica, with opposition groups pushing for changes they say will reflect the will of the people.
