With the tenure of Jamaican Andre Coley as West Indies test coach coming to an end, Daren Sammy will officially start as the team's all-format head on Tuesday, and he will do so with a new test captain, as Kraigg Brathwaite has stepped down from the role.
Brathwaite's decision to leave the post comes after two historic achievements for the Windies test team in the last 12 months.
Under his leadership, the West Indies secured their first test victory in Australia in 27 years with a thrilling 8 run win in Brisbane in 2024.
Earlier this year, he led the team to a landmark test victory over Pakistan in Pakistan to level the series, the first in 34 years. In a video release on Monday, Brathwaite said the time was right to relinquish the post.
