Cunningham takes fifth at Rio Paralympics

Jamaica's Alphanso Cunningham says he is not too disappointed in his fifth place finish in the men's F53-54 javelin at the Paralympic Games in Rio, Brazil on Friday.

Cunningham, who won gold in the event at the London 2012 Games threw a season's best  19.49 meters. The event was won by Manolis Stefanoudakis of Greece with a personal best of 26.45 meters.

Cunningham is already looking ahead to contesting his next event the F53 shot put for which he is fancying his chances of winning despite only doing the event for just over a year. He will compete in the shot put next week Wednesday.

Dana-Gaye Weller will be the next Jamaican in action when she competes in the club throw event on Sunday, while fellow first-time Paralympian Shane Hudson begins his bid in the men's T-46 400 metres next Friday.
