GC Foster dethrones UTech to win Intercol crown

GC Foster College dethroned last year's champions UTech to take the male and female titles as the two day NCB Inter-Collegiate Track and Field Championships came to a close at the National Stadium on Saturday.

GC Foster College had already secured both men's and women's titles heading into the final event, the 4 X 400 metres.

However, that didn't diminish the quality of the two races. The female event was won by the University of Technology who had Shericka Jackson on the third leg while the men's event went to GC Foster College, thanks to a stirring anchor leg from Demar Murray.

In the end, GC Foster tallied 232 points, 80 more than UTech to win the men's title and 202 points on the female side, 17 more than the UTech women's team.

Head coach Maurice Wilson lauded the overall team effort. Earlier, Oshane Bailey completed the sprint double, taking the men's 200 metres in 20.72 seconds ahead of UTech's Kavean Smith in 20.77 and his GC Foster College teammate Everton Clarke 20.82 seconds.

In the field, Olympian Traves Smikle signalled he is returning to form, winning the men's discus with a best effort of 61.26 metres.

World Championships finalist Fedrick Dacres was second with 60.08 metres. The GC Foster College pair of Oshane Archibald and Danielle James were the overall male and female champions after both tallying 23 points.
