The first Jamaican schoolboy to ever run below 10 seconds, the world lead and the third fastest time ever by a junior are just some of the accomplishments which now belong to Kingston College's Bouwahgjie Nkrumie.
It was back to back national junior 100 metre records on Wednesday’s second day of the ISSA Grace Kennedy Boys and Girls Athletics Championships at the National Stadium after Hydel's Alana Reid rewrote the history books a few minutes earlier.
Nkrumie shattered the Class 1 100 metre record, stopping the clock in a new National Junior Record time of 9.99 seconds, also the first ever sub-ten clocking in the history of the championships.
Deandre Daley of Herbert Morrison Technical recorded a new personal best 10.12 seconds to take the silver, while bronze went to Jaiden Reid of Jamaica College in 10.26 seconds.
In the girls equivalent, with favourite Serena Cole of Edwin Allen High withdrawing from the final due to injury concerns, Alana Reid from Hydel she was in a class all by herself, storming to a new National Junior Record with sensational 10.92 seconds, eclipsing the 10.95 seconds set by Tina Clayton at last year's national junior. It was also the first ever sub-eleven second clocking at the championships.
Another record that fell was the girls Class 1 discus, where Cedricka Williams of Holmwood Technical hit a new national junior record mark of 57.84 metres to win ahead of Abigail Martin of St Jago High who also surpassed the previous record by heaving 53.81 metres.
Jody-Ann Mitchell of Holmwood echnical was also in record breaking mood, retaining her title in the girl’s Class 1 1500 metres.
She stopped the clock at 4 minutes, 29.42 seconds, erasing Natoya Goule's 13 year record of 4 minutes, 29.81 seconds.
Jamaica College are leading the boys section on 74 points after 8 finals. They are followed by Kingston College on 61, Calabar 29, St Jago 28 and St Elizabeth Technical on 27 completing the top five.
The girls section is being led by defending champions Edwin Allen on 55 points after 9 finals, followed by St Jago 47, Holmwood Technical 41, Hydel 39 and Immaculate 23 rounding out the top five.
