In what has been their best batting effort of the season so far, the Jamaica Scorpions have given themselves an outside chance of pulling off a miraculous victory against the Guyana Harpy Eagles as they closed on 176-1, chasing 458 to win, at stumps on Friday’s third day of their fourth round regional 4-day clash at the Providence Stadium.
The Scorpions need a further 282 runs to pull off an improbable win. Opener Tevin Gilzene is 81 not out, while captain Jermaine Blackwood is 66, with the two sharing an unbroken 166 run second wicket stand.
Gilzene has hit 14 fours in his knock so far and blackwood 11. Leroy Lugg is the man dismissed for 10.
Earlier, the Harpy Eagles declared their second innings at 294-7 after resuming the day at 138-4.
Tevin Imlach completed his maiden first class century with 136 not out from his overnight 50, while Tagenarine Chanderpaul fell for 89 after resuming on 60.
Marquino Mindley ended with career best figures of 6-54. The Scorpions are searching for their first win of the campaign after suffering two defeats in the first three rounds.
Meanwhile, defending champions Barbados Pride need just 66 more runs to beat the Trinidad and Tobago Red Force with 8 wickets in hand. The Pride who have been set 118 to win, closed the penultimate day on 52-2.
Zachary McCaskie is unbeaten on 29 against Bryan Charles who has so far taken 2-12.
Earlier, the Red Force who resumed their second innings on 31-2, were bowled out for 185.
Darren Bravo added only 16 more runs to his overnight 20; while Jyd Goolie made 35 and Jason Mohammed and Tion Webster 22 each. Chaim Holder bagged 4-63 and Akedem Jordan 3-35.
Elsewhere, the Leeward Islands Hurricanes are holding an overall lead of 128 against the Windward Islands Volcanoes.
The Hurricanes got to stumps at 99-5 in their second innings. Montcin Hodge got 45 and Jahmar Hamilton 22 against Preston McSween 2-26.
The Volcanoes who had resumed their first innings on 206-2, eventually posted 353.
Alick Athanaze took his overnight 105 to 128, while Kavem Hodge who resumed on 85, went on to make a top score of 137.
Jeremiah Loius bagged 4-46 and Rahkeem Cornwall 4-109.
