American band SOJA wins Reggae Grammy, but some disapprove

Social media users have voiced their disapproval for Sunday night's winner of the Reggae Grammy award.
 
Virginia based reggae band SOJA, consisting of mainly white men, were given the nod over veterans Gramps Morgan and Sean Paul, as well as Spice, Etana and Jesse Royal.
 
Fans have accused the Recording Academy of racial bias and blasted the committee members for being out of touch with true reggae music. 
 
Outspoken dancehall deejay Bounty Killer described the win as a sell out, while Shenseea and Beenie Man also reacted negatively to the win.
 
Music producers Ainsley 'Notnice' Morris' and Kurt Riley have implored more musicians to become voting members in order to have a voice.

The 64th Grammy Awards saw its top nominee Jon Batiste winning five trophies including Album of the Year for We Are
 
Batiste, who received 11 nominations, also won American roots performance and American roots song, best score soundtrack for visual media and best music video for Freedom.
 
Duo Silk Sonic took two other big categories: Record and Song of the Year, for Leave the Door Open as well as Best R&B Performance and Best R&B Song.
 
Olivia Rodrigo was named Best New Artist and also won Best Pop Vocal Album and Best Pop Solo Performance.
 
Other winners include Doja Cat and Sza for Best Pop Duo or Group Performance, Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album went to Tony Bennett & Lady Gaga, while Tyler, the Creator won Best Rap Album and Ye and Jay-Z for Best Rap Song.
 
Jazmine Sullivan, Lucky Daye and Quest Love also took home trophies.
