Brie Larson to star as first woman to run for US president

Brie Larson is set to play a leader in the women's suffrage movement.

Larson has signed on to play Victoria Woodhull, who became the first woman to run for president of the United States after launching a campaign in 1872.

While Woodhull did not win the presidency, she helped in the fight to give women the vote - achieved some 40 years later.

The Amazon Studios film will be written by Ben Kopit.

Larson's agent and representative confirmed her casting. But she is also set to produce the film, alongside others.

Larson, who won the best actress Oscar for Room, also appears in monster epic Kong: Skull Island.
