Comedian, writer and actor Paul Mooney has died from a heart attack.
Mooney died Wednesday morning at his home in Oakland, California, after paramedics tried unsuccessfully to revive him.
He has been out of the public eye in recent years, reportedly suffering from dementia.
Mooney is best known for his work with Richard Pryor as head writer for his stand up performances.
His writing credits also include In Living Color and Chappelle's Show.
Mooney played Sam Cooke in the 1978 film The Buddy Holly Story, as well as Junebug in Spike Lee's Bamboozled.
