Edna Manley College hosting concert for International Jazz Day

The Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts joins the world in celebrating International Jazz Day today.

The institution will be hosting a jazz concert on the East Lawns of Devon House at 7 p.m.

The 2018 Concert will feature an all-star cast from the School of Music led by Ibo Cooper, Orville Hammond, Rafael Salazar, Ruth Browne, Jon Williams, Derrick Stewart, Devon Richardson, June Lawson, pianist Randy Weston and the African Rhythms Trio and a host of others.

Edna Manley offers a degree in Jazz and Popular Music Studies and says it is delighted to join the rest of the world to acknowledge the role jazz has played in society.

As the first and only institution of its kind in the English-speaking Caribbean, the college plays a major role in using the arts to educate, heal and enrich the nation.

The International Jazz Day concert is made possible through a partnership with the United States Embassy in Kingston.
