The Emmy Awards will now allow winners to remove gender-specific terms like "Actress" and "Actor" from trophies, and will instead use the term "Performers."
The Television Academy says nominees and winners in any performer category may request that their nomination certificate and Emmy statuette carry the term "Performer" in place of "Actor" or "Actress".
The new gender-inclusive option will be included in this year's 73rd anniversary event scheduled for September.
The debate has been ongoing as non-binary performers called for the changes to be more inclusive.
A non-binary person is someone who does not identify as a man or a woman, or solely as one of the two general genders.
Gender-neutral categories were implemented at the MTV Movie and TV Awards in 2017, while the Grammy Awards went gender-neutral in 2012.
