Protoje chides politicians for using dancehall, reggae in election campaign

Reggae artiste Protoje has hit out against politicians using dancehall and reggae music as part of their campaign efforts.

He released an anti-dub remix of his song Self Defense in which he called out politicians for their attack on music, including blaming the genres for the violence in society.

In the accompanying caption, he stated that he will not be joining his peers in voicing dubplates for election purposes.

His criticism follows that of dancehall artiste Bounty Killer, who took to Instagram days ago to voice his disapproval of the practice.

Bounty Killer had stated that the players in the industry are being used by the system.

A similar post against the practice was also made on the official Instagram page of incarcerated dancehall artiste Vybz Kartel, recently.
