'The Crown', 'The Queen's Gambit' secure most wins at Emmys

Netflix's hit shows The Crown and The Queen's Gambit along with Apple TV+'s Ted Lasso took the top honours at Sunday night's Emmy Awards.

The drama about the British royal family won prizes including best drama series and four acting wins for cast members Gillian Anderson, Olivia Colman, Josh O'Connor and Tobias Menzies.

Chess drama The Queen's Gambit was named best limited series and tied with The Crown for the most wins overall at 11 apiece.

Ted Lasso secured trophies for best comedy actor and supporting roles for actor and actress.

Other winners include Saturday Night Live, The Mandalorian and RuPaul's Drag Race.

Coupled with last week's wins at the Creative Arts Emmys devoted mostly to technical categories, Netflix's combined total of 44 wins this year meant it towered above its nearest competitor - HBO which secured 19.

The history making feat is the first time Netflix has won more Emmys than HBO, which has dominated the ceremony for years.
