Three Jamaican shows ranked in Billboard's top 7 Caribbean Festivals

Billboard magazine has listed the top seven Caribbean Festivals.

Among them is Reggae Sumfest held in Montego Bay, St. James.

The event which started out as Reggae SunSplash in 1993, is now in its 25th year.

This year's show will feature Jamaican dancehall superstar Sean Paul, American-Jamaican R&B/hip-hop artist Sean Kingston and Canadian R&B singer Torey Lanez.

The two other local festivals that made the cut are Rebel Salute and the Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival.

Founded in 1994 by Rastafarian sing-jay Tony Rebel as a celebration of his birthday, the two-night event Rebel Salute is inclusive of all Jamaican music forms but emphasizing roots reggae's positive vibrations.

Rebel Salute outgrew its St. Elizabeth home, and is now staged in Priory, St. Ann.

Meanwhile, since 1996, the Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival has presented Alicia Keys, John Legend, Maroon 5, Diana Ross, Mariah Carey, in addition to top-tier reggae talents Maxi Priest, Sean Paul, Shaggy and Ziggy Marley.

The event's distinguishing moment arrived in 2012 with a flawless performance by Celine Dion, who transposed her elaborate Las Vegas show within Trelawny stadium and drew approximately 27,000 people.

On hiatus since 2016, the Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival is scheduled for a Winter 2018 return.
