Air Jamaica suspends flights to JFK

Air Jamaica has put a hold on flights to New York’s John F Kennedy Airport, which is still struggling to recover from the blizzard that affected the US East Coast.

Based on the latest official information from the authorities, Air Jamaica says there will be no flights to New York until issues with ground handling logistics have been resolved.

Air Jamaica says it continues to remain in close contact with the authorities and will be guided by their updates to schedule flights to JFK as conditions improve.

On Monday the blizzards affected two Air Jamaica flights which were dispatched to arrive at JFK.

While the flights were en route to New York, Air Jamaica was advised of the extended closure due to the airport's inability to clear the continuous snow blowing on the runways.

The flights were then diverted to Dulles Airport in Washington, DC.

Air Jamaica says it arranged for 10 buses to transport passengers from Dulles to New York to complete their journey.

All passengers from these flights are now safely in New York.

Passengers who have been affected by the schedule changes will be re-booked on later flights as available.

Air Jamaica advises that there will be no fees for date or flight changes for the affected period.

Over the last two days, nearly 7,000 flights have been affected throughout the US with tens of thousands of passengers inconvenienced.

The blizzard has been recorded as the sixth worst in the US since information gathering began in 1869.
