Paulwell pitches PNP's energy plans to PSOJ

Opposition Spokesman on Energy, Phillip Paulwell

Opposition Spokesman on Energy, Phillip Paulwell is appealing to members of the Private Sector Organization of Jamaica to support a People's National Party administration, saying it has solutions to cut the country's electricity costs.

Mr Paulwell has also urged the private sector to give favourable consideration to the PNP's manifesto.

He met on Monday with PSOJ executives to share the energy plans, programmes, and strategies that he said a new PNP Administration would pursue to slash electricity costs by more than half and accelerate economic growth.

Mr. Paulwell told the PSOJ executives that a PNP-led administration would cut the current rate from 40 US cents per kilowatt-hour to less than 20 cents.

He said the plans also include a crackdown on electricity theft, investing in renewable energy, and revising the licence issued to the Jamaica Public Service Company.

Mr Paulwell acknowledged that the high cost of electricity has long burdened consumers and businesses, stifled growth, and pushed up the cost of living.

He promised that the PNP would reinstate the Energy Council, which was designed to shape policy in the energy industry.
