Airbnb CEO and co-founder Brian Chesky says global travel might never fully recover from the coronavirus pandemic, but he anticipates more travel from persons within their own countries.
Chesky who gave the outlook in an interview published Sunday said people are not embarking on long haul trips.
He believes it will get smaller as a percentage of travel in the future.
The European Union (EU) is set to ban most American travelers from entering when it reopens.
The U.S. has recorded a surge in COVID-19 cases mainly driven by increases in the South and West.
Last week, Tourism Minister Ed Bartlett said the government will be looking to establish special protocols for visitors who plan to stay at Airbnb accommodations and villas amid the coronavirus.
Bartlett said short term rentals were not considered as part of the protocols for the first phase of the country's reopening.
