Bahamas supports US candidate for IDB president

The Bahamas has become the second CARICOM country to support the United States candidate for the position of president of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).

Nassau, in a brief statement, said that it would be supporting Mauricio Claver-Carone for the post for the term 2020-2025.

The Hubert Minnis government said Mr. Claver-Carone has committed to working on the region's recovery from the coronavirus pandemic to attract more private investment.

Last month, the new Guyana government announced its backing for the US candidate saying it believes he is a good candidate.

Elections for the IDB President will be held from September 12 to 13.
