Dr Jide Lewis, Deputy Governor, Bank of Jamaica
The Bank of Jamaica says Deposit Taking Institutions have been moving to upgrade their Automated Banking Machines in order to meet its service level standard of 95 per cent uptime.
According to Dr Jide Lewis, Deputy Governor of the BOJ, some banks, including CIBC, National Commercial Bank and First Global Bank, are at or above the standard of availability for customer transactions.
Dr Lewis, speaking recently on Radio Jamaica's Beyond the Headlines, said the average uptime for other banks is 90 to 93 per cent.
He said heavy usage of ABMS on month-ends and around pay cycles, as well as the end of life of some machines, contribute to frequent downtimes.
He added that Deposit Taking Institutions are responding to the complaints of their customers.
