Citigroup to lay off 286 employees in New York

US based financial institution Citigroup is to lay off 286 employees in New York.

Reuters says this was revealed in filings to the State Department of Labour, at a time the bank is carrying out its biggest overhaul in decades.

Three separate notices dated earlier this week showed 239 employees would be affected from its main banking subsidiary.

Forty-four staff members are to be cut from its broker-dealer unit, and three from its technology arm.

Citigroup said in January it would cut 20-thousand jobs over the next two years.

The lender is aiming to reduce its global workforce by roughly eight per cent by 2026.

It's not clear if the restructuring will affect operations in Jamaica and the Caribbean, including CitiBank.
