Air Jamaica has pointed to its recent acquisition by Caribbean Airlines as the main reason behind the decision to end its code share agreement with Virgin Atlantic Airways.
Under the agreement, which had been in place since 2007, Air Jamaica was able to book passengers on flights operated by Virgin Atlantic between Jamaica and London Gatwick Airport.
Bruce Nobles, Air Jamaica President, says both parties decided that it was in their best interest to end the agreement.
Mr. Nobles explained that the focus is now on the transition of Air Jamaica to Caribbean Airlines and the development of markets in the United States and Caribbean.
The airlines have agreed to continue the partnership in their Frequent Flyer programmes allowing passengers on any one airline to earn and redeem miles on the other.
