Crews arrive in Jamaica to support JPS ahead of storm

The Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) says crews from overseas are already on the ground in Jamaica to help restore electricity quickly after the passage of Tropical Storm Melissa.

JPS Director of Corporate Communications Winsome Callum said a team of linesmen from the United States arrived Friday under an existing partnership agreement.

She added that another team from St. Vincent arrived early this week.

Ms. Callum said the decision to secure outside help before the storm is part of a new strategy to speed up power restoration.

She noted that during Hurricane Beryl the company sought help only after the system was already damaged, resulting in longer delays especially in rural communities.
