DBJ offers $100 million grant to help entrepreneurs with patents

The Development Bank of Jamaica is offering a $100 million grant to help investors and entrepreneurs meet patent requirements.

The programme was recently approved.

Christopher Brown, manager of the DBJ's Boosting Innovation, Growth and Entrepreneurship Ecosystems (BIGEE) Programme, says successful inventors, researchers, and entrepreneurs can receive up to $4 million.

The programme will cover up to 80 per cent of the sum for approved projects.

These funds may be used to file patent applications for their products or inventions both locally and internationally.

Applicants must have a registered business in Jamaica and submit a patent application with the Jamaica Intellectual Property Office (JIPO).

Applications will be open until November 25.

The DBJ says the initiative is aimed at helping to protect and commercialize the ideas and inventions of local entrepreneurs.
