Deadline to pay property taxes

Members of the public have until the close of business on Friday, April 1 to pay their property tax for the 2011/2012 fiscal year.

The Tax Administration and Services Department says payments can be made in full, half-yearly or quarterly instalments.

Any property tax payment made after April 30 may attract a 10% penalty, whether it is done in full or a first instalment.

"To facilitate persons, we’ve put a number of measures in place to make it easier for persons to comply. There are a number of channels through which they can make the payment, we have 29 tax offices right across the island to which they can made payments and for persons paying by cheques, they can use the electronic drop boxes that are available in our main offices rather than having to come in, stand in line and go to our cashiers.

"To make it much more convenient, we also have our online facilities, so person (can pay) their taxes from the comforts of their homes and offices," said Meris Haughton, the Director of Communications at the Tax Administration and Services Department.
