The Bank of Jamaica says the five largest deposit taking institutions (DTIs) held 81.7 per cent of the market share by the end of 2023.
That was up slightly from the 81.4 per cent held in 2022.
The 2023 Annual Report published by the central bank showed there were 11 deposit taking institutions.
There were eight commercial banks, one merchant bank and two building societies.
A closer look at the market position showed that National Commercial Bank held the largest share of the DTI business at 35.4 per cent.
Bank of Nova Scotia was second at 21.9 per cent, while JN Bank held 9.5 per cent of the market.
The BOJ says although generally unchanged, the market share of the deposit taking sector reflected the impact of successful growth initiatives by a few medium-sized DTIs.
It says larger licensees depicted more moderate growth levels in light of current and projected macroeconomic conditions.
