Grenada's Prime Minister Dr. Keith Mitchell on Tuesday called for the elimination of roaming charges within CARICOM.
The regional grouping moved one step closer to that initiative by signing the St. George's Declaration on Roaming with Digicel and Cable and Wireless.
Dr. Mitchell, who has lead responsibility for Science and Technology within the quasi CARICOM Cabinet, says the declaration means that Caribbean citizens will have options to use their mobile phones as they move freely within the CARICOM at reduced costs.
Implementation is expected to take place between the second and third quarter of this year.
