House approves five Orders under Proceeds of Crime Act

The Jamaican House of  Representatives has approved five Orders under the Proceeds of  Crime Act (POCA), as part of  measures to combat money laundering.

The Orders cover non-financial businesses and professionals.

The authorities designated non-financial businesses and professions are: the General Legal Council; Public Accountancy Board; Real Estate Board; Betting Gaming and Lotteries Commission; and the Casino Gaming Commission.

Most of the Orders will go into effect on April 1, 2014.

The Orders are in keeping with agreed time lines between the Government and the Caribbean Financial Action Task Force.
