The Jamaica Stock Exchange will launch its online trading portal on Wednesday. This will facilitate the buying and selling of securities via the internet.
Persons locally and overseas will be able use the portal, setting up their account, but according to Marlene Street Forrest, General Manager of the Stock Exchange, they will still be required to have a broker.
"Having been approved by the broker, and having an account online, they will be able now to directly buy and sell securities, edit active buy and sell orders, cancel orders... look at their performance, look at their porftolio," she explained.
Online trading is expected to increase activity in the equities market, with Street Forrest hoping that "younger persons" to utilise the stock market as an investment option, "beacause it will be easire for them to go on, analyse, and see what is happening."
