Jamaican Diaspora snubbing Air Jamaica- Dennis Lalor

Air Jamaica's Chairman, Dennis Lalor has indicated that the Jamaican Diaspora has been snubbing the airline, since its takeover by Caribbean Airlines.

Mr Lalor says he's disappointed with the action as it has resulted in low load factors for the carrier.

It's understood that some of the fallout stem from flight delay problems faced with the airline last summer, but added to that is the feeling that Air Jamaica is no longer Jamaican.

Up to the time of the takeover of Air Jamaica by Caribbean Airlines in 2010, the airline catered for 60 percent of the Jamaican market even though it had a higher average prices for tickets than competing airlines.

That support was put down to loyalty among Jamaicans towards the airline.

In the meantime, Mr Lalor says the airline's  recent decision to pull back from the Miami route, will not affect plans to expand to London later this year.

Just months after re-launching the Miami route, Air Jamaica stopped operating on the route last week.

Mr. Lalor says the decision to return to Miami was a test, but load factors never materialised, forcing the decision to cut the route again.
