Jamaica's trade deficit climbed to US$2.88 billion for January to June

 
Jamaica's trade deficit - the difference between imports and exports - climbed to US$2.88 billion during the first six months of this year when compared with the same period last year. 
 
The Statistical Institute of Jamaica (STATIN) says this was due to a 6.8 per cent drop in exports to US$888.2 million compared with US$953.2 million during the same period last year. 
 
Meanwhile, imports climbed by 2.3 per cent to $3.77 billion compared to US$3.69 billion during the first six months of last year.
