JCTU President calls for greater oversight in hiring consultants

Helene Davis Whyte, President of the Jamaica Confederation of  Trade Unions (JCTU), wants greater oversight in the hiring of consultants by State entities, saying this should be part of  the Public Sector Transformation Programme.

Speaking against the background of the row over the hiring of a consultant to assist with organising Jamaica 55 celebrations,  Davis Whyte is recommending a strict approval process for hiring such persons.

"Is whether or not public sector entities should be able to get approval for the hiring of consultants in situations where the jobs can be done in house.  I think those are issues that have to be raised," she said.
