Legal battle between Lasco and Pfizer heads to Privy Council

The legal battle involving Lasco Distributors and international pharmaceutical company, Pfizer, is headed to the UK Privy Council.

At the centre of the dispute is the drug Norvase which is used to treat high blood pressure.

However, Lasco's objection to grant Pfizer a stay of the judgment of the Court was accepted by the Court of Appeal.

This means that Lasco is permitted to continue to trade in the drug  which it had been barred from distributing and proceed to have the Supreme Court assess the damages caused by the issue of  the injunction and to tax the cost payable by Pfizer.

Lasco Distributors is set to receive a huge pay out from its court victory against Pfizer.

This is compensation for lost earnings over the seven years in which the sale of  a generic blood-pressure drug was halted.
