Local firms seem to be more optimistic about going to the equities market to raise capital coming out of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Stuart South, Manager in charge of Capital Markets at Sagicor Investments, says firms are looking to increase funds to boost expansion.

"Based on the latest indications, companies are more bullish about the future.... During COVID, there was a lot of uncertainty in the market and I think that uncertainty is now dissipating. So companies are now looking at various ways in which they can access the capital markets so that they can fuel the next stage of their growth," he suggested.

He said many of them are assessing the best strategy, based on their goals.

"We are seeing companies discussing whether to raise debt or equity, whether on the private market as well as on the public market. I'm not privy to say exactly those details, but we do see sentiment improving among the business owners themselves, as the uncertainty coming out of COVID has dissipated."

Mr. South was speaking in an interview with Radio Jamaica News.
