The multi-billion dollar Montego Bay Convention Centre in Rose Hall, St. James is to be officially opened on Friday, January 7.
The facility, which was constructed by a loan from China, is to be declared open by Prime Minister Bruce Golding.
Tourism Minister Ed Bartlett says despite a soft opening, the facility will be ready for the region's premiere tourism marketing event, Caribbean Marketplace, scheduled for next week.
"The Convention Centre is on track for the soft opening on Friday by the Prime Minister. The physical areas that we need to ensure that market place is held are all ready and will be in good condition for the January 16 when Marketplace begins," Mr. Bartlett said.
On Wednesday, the Urban Development Corporation signed an agreement with the international company SMG to market and manage the Convention Centre.
It will be in effect initially for seven years with the option to renew for an additional three years.
The Montego Bay Convention Centre was constructed to enhance the country’s competitiveness in the meetings and conventions market.
