Simon Roberts on Monday took
up the post of new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Hardware and Lumber Limited,
a subsidiary of GraceKennedy.
The post of CEO became vacant in July when Anthony Holness went on early retirement.
Since then, Joseph Taffe, Deputy CEO of Grace Kennedy Investments has been overseeing the day to day operations of Hardware and Lumber.
Mr. Roberts' appointment comes as Hardware and Lumber faces major financial challenges.
The company suffered a $560 million drop in revenue and a sharp increase in losses for the first six months of its financial year.
From January to June, Hardware and Lumber earned $2.9 billion compared to $3.5 billion during the corresponding period last year.
This resulted in the company suffering a $139 million loss compared to a $28 million profit during the corresponding six month period last year.
