There were fewer point of sale terminals in the country at the end of November 2023, compared with the previous year.
The BOJ's annual report shows there was 42 per cent decrease in the number of devices deployed, amounting to 28,446.
The total volume of transactions processed on POS terminals, however, increased by 22 per cent or 4.65 million more transactions compared with November 2022.
There was a total of 25.73 million point of sale transactions during the January to November 2023 period, valued at $189.13 billion.
This was up by 22.5 per cent or $34.72 billion, compared with the corresponding period in 2022.
